The Green Homes Grant scheme
Homeowners will get vouchers worth up to £10,000 to help with insulation costs
The vouchers will be made available to use on environmentally-friendly additions such as insulation, solar panels, low-energy lighting, double glazing and energy-efficient doors.
Homeowners in England will receive vouchers worth up to £10,000 to make energy-saving improvements to their properties.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak made the announcement as part of a £2 billion green package to create jobs, upgrade buildings and protect the environment as part of efforts to rebuild the economy after Covid-19.
The scheme is available until the end of March 2021 and grants will be available for:
roof insulation
solid wall, under-floor and cavity wall insulation
air source or ground source heat pump
solar thermal
double or triple glazing/secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing
upgrades to energy efficient doors
installation and repair of hot water tanks, appliance tank thermostats, heating controls
How can you take advantage of this as a business?
With the government scheme homeowners will get up to £10,000 to make energy-saving improvements, so if you offer these services you could win new customers that have money to spend as well as customers who may want to make repairs or renovations once the changes have been made.
To win this potential new work the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has said that tradespeople must register for TrustMark or Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation.
It will also be key for your business to stand out, as consumers will be doing research on who is the best fit for the job. So making sure your messaging and marketing is clear and visible is absolutely vital.
What happens if I am not a trusted installer for the scheme?
Even if you are not an accredited installer, that doesn't mean you can't take advantage of the scheme. Homeowners may need to make changes to do the work, or even do extra work at the same time, so there will still be work to pick up off the back of it! It may also make home owners more aware of their bills so want to make improvements even if they can't get the grant.
How do you become a trusted installer?
To become a trusted installer, and for your customers to be eligible to receive the grant, you'll need to register for TrustMark or Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation.
When does the scheme start?
The scheme is due to start in September 2020 and run through to March 2021.
